Vanilla Hearts

Laying entwinned in one another’s tender embrace

In a caliginous room

Enveloped by a heady smell of vanilla coming from within a burner

An irenic scene to a witness’s eye.

But above those cotton threaded ruffled sheets

A melancholy feeling was gripping and unfolding

Those involved in a love affair of metanoia

Maybe about to take a bow.

Sometimes, the truth can be a bitter pill to swallow

Unlike the heavenly ecstasy tasting sweets

And wintery nights filled of love stricken stoked romance.

Back when life made sense.

A confession of growing discontent

Coupled with a fear of losing control brewing but

A stream of passionate love and feelings of elation ensues.

I cherish this feeling.

The feeling of being curled up in your arms

Our fingers entwined as we catch our breath and smile

A sad but satiated smile in our little bubble.

But it is at these times I feel at peace with you.

And even though we have been rocked

I smile because you are in my heart and in this moment, we are still

One.
