A Different Place

Salutation Readers,

Way way back in the summer of 2020, in the midst of the relaxing of pandemic regulations, two friends, who suddenly found they both had an excessive of creativity, after being pent up for months, decided over drinks to tap in to our creative banks and challenged one another to write a poem together. The topic was something that we had both and many of us had experienced: Holiday romance.

So below is the co-authored poem between a 52 year old, who has a shoe size higher than their mental age (I was told to write that ;)) and myself, a 28 year old who believes gin and drag is the cure to all issues in her life.

In a different place, on a different shore
In a different time, obeying a different law,
There stands a place, I know not why.
I see it when I close my eyes.

A recherchè feeling of peacefulness in the hussle of this busy mediocre life.
And how my heart swells to stand next to you,  hand in hand
Taking in this different land.

Hand in hand; a moment,
Between the beat of a heart and the depth of a breath
Between the fleet of a thought, the length and breadth.

A moment between two hearts and a shared thought
Of tranquility and peace.
Two logophiles toy with their craft.

But brief is the moment you must understand,
That the turn of a world can be stopped by a hand.
So I open my eyes as time marches on,
The tick and tock of the beat of the song.
And there, as before, once again I am me.
Though a little bit different? Who knows.
We shall see.

A different time and a different place.
I can still see it when I close my eyes.
