The First Date

A fateful cold November’s day and a spontaneous arrangement

All a flurry of activity and chaos

All to meet for coffee.

Nerves a wreck for a casual meet.

Breath caught in the air and a confusion of venues.

But that moment I walked in and locked eyes with you, I knew.

Knew that I wanted to get to know you and your heart.

I placed my order, all whilst taking you in.

Your salt and pepper hair with French pirate facial hair

With grey eyes piercing through.

Giving me those butterflies that I still feel when I look at you.

Two creatives talking, laughing and sharing jokes.

Subtle flirting.

Wanting you to want me back.

You apologise for your bad habit and excuse yourself.

But when you come back – you smile at me and I melt.

Swinging on our coats in a hurry

We part with a hug, you pulling me into your warm embrace.

And then disappearing into the crowds, we go our own ways.

Unassuming of what was to come.

  1. Hello, I stumbled across by accident and was then astonished to see who the writer was – what a small world.
You may not even remember me, but I thought I’d say hello and hope you’re okay. M
